Digital Citizenship Week

Digital Citizenship Week: October 16-20, 2023

Just like we have rules to keep us safe at school, on the playground, or at home, we also have rules to keep us safe on the internet.  Each year, K-4 students participate in lessons regarding Digital Citizenship.  The Common Sense Media digital citizen characters teach us to Pause and Think: How can we be safe, responsible, and respectful online?

The four basic rules that we build upon as presented by NetSmartz are:

  1. I will tell a trusted adult if anything makes me feel sad, scared, or confused.

  2. I will ask a trusted adult before sharing any personal information like my name, address, and phone number.

  3. I will NOT meet face-to- face with anyone from the Internet.

  4. I will always use good netiquette (manners) and not be rude or mean online.

Common Sense Media is a great resource for parents.  They review movies, books, apps, TV shows, video games, websites, and music to help families make age-appropriate choices.  “Reviews for what your kids are into (before they get into it).  Trusted ratings created with families in mind.”
